LEARN. PLAN. EXECUTE.
Trading plan template
A trading plan is a short written set of rules you follow every session. Copy the six sections below, fill them in, and keep the page next to your charts.
1. Markets and sessions
Decide where and when you trade so you stop chasing every move.
- List the one to three instruments you trade
- Name the sessions you trade (for example London open only)
- Write the hours you will not trade
2. Entry rules
Every condition must be true before you enter. If one is missing, there is no trade.
- Higher-timeframe direction you trade with
- The exact setup that triggers an entry
- The confirmation you need on your entry timeframe
- News events that cancel a setup
3. Exit rules
Know how you get out before you get in.
- Where the stop loss goes and why
- How targets are set (structure level or fixed R multiple)
- When you move the stop or take partial profits
- When you close a trade that is not working
4. Risk management
These numbers protect your account on bad days.
- Maximum risk per trade as a percent of the account
- Maximum daily loss that ends the session
- Maximum number of trades per day
- Position size calculated before every entry
5. Psychological limits
Rules for the trader, not the chart.
- No trading when tired, angry or distracted
- Stop after two losses in a row and review
- No revenge trades and no increasing size to win back losses
- Daily journal entry before the session ends
6. Review routine
A plan improves only if you measure it.
- Weekly review of every trade against the plan
- Tag each broken rule in your journal
- Change one rule at a time, then test it
